Zambrano’s sorry and available for next to nothing!


In an interview with ESPN, Carlos Zambrano apologized for his tirade, saying “It was a moment of frustration.  I was trying to fire up the team. Lee told me to shut up, and I got more excited. I apologize from the bottom of my heart. The last person I would be mad at is D. Lee; he’s a Gold Glover. I was just mad at myself.”

Interest in Lilly intensifying


With the trade deadline looming, interest in Ted Lilly is heating up.   ESPN’s Jayson Stark reports that at least 6 teams are interested in Lilly, including the Tigers, Mets and Dodgers, and that Lilly will get traded.  The Sun Times Chris DeLuca goes one step further than Stark saying that with Lilly’s next start scheduled for Tuesday, the Cubs would like to trade him before then, possibly even this weekend.

Is it time to worry about Carlos Silva?


Whether it was smoke and mirrors or a deal with the devil, Carlos Silva’s pitching has been nothing short of spectacular this season.  However, after two straight starts where he hasn’t lasted more than 1.1 innings, people are starting to speculate that the end is near for Silva and his fantasy owners are scrambling to trade him for anything of value.

More on Lou Piniella’s retirement


As I passed along earlier today, Lou Piniella held a press conference today to announce his retirement from managing at the end of the season.  With his contract expiring at the end of the year, it had long been speculated that this would be Piniella’s last year and today’s press conference confirmed it.
